St. Benedict
St. Benedict
Starring: Gianpaolo Rosmino, Lilianne Laine, Alfredo Varelli, Nino Pavese
This stirring Italian production tells the story of Benedict Anicia, known to the world as the founder of the Benedictine Order. Born in the fifth century A.D. to noble parents, Benedict, at the age of twenty, fled decadent Rome and sought solitude in a cave, where he lived for three years.
Over time, Benedict acquired a band of followers, and they eventually settled at Monte Casino. There, on a hill, they built a magnificent monastery, an edifice which survived until World War II, when it was destroyed by bombs.
This film focuses primarily on Benedict's efforts to promote charity among people. Charity - the mistress and queen of virtues!
